You cannot fathom the amount of torture this laptop has put me through.
It's brand new, recommended by my Animation course over a Mac Book pro because of it's specs. It was £1,500 (Which is a hell of a lot of money when you're a student...living in London)... you'd think it would work.
However.

IT'S A DELL.


My last laptop was a Dell, an Inspiron, bought for me as a gift for doing so well in my GCSE exams... Well, I can tell you. The amount of problems I had with that one made me vow to NEVER buy a Dell again...
..But, I was informed that this was the best Laptop for the job (judging my the cost limitation).

The 15 other students or so that also ordered Dells on my Animation course have had a few issues with them here and there, but nothing REALLY worrying. That's just Dells for you.
MINE however... Well f*ck me. I never thought I'd get the REJECT.
I could list the problems, but you'd be up all night reading.

GOOD news is! After a serious chat with Dell that over a few days, lasted around 6 hours... they've agreed to replace the XPS with a new one, and with an Upgraded processor, plus Windows 8. I know W8 has received a lot of stick; I however think it looks great. I like the change.
Fingers crossed this one won't be mechanically retarded.

Anyways. Yeah. I needed to get it out of my system...

I abandoned Dell for a HP, and that has windows 8 on it. I quite like it, it's shhnazzy :D

My own experiences with Dell, and those of every person I've ever known who've dealt with Dell, have been utterly horrific. The machines are hit or miss and often have little problems (like with your friends, and I bet they had some aggravation if they needed to talk to Dell too). I absolutely feel your frustration.

My "still-portable" laptop is an old Dell Inspiron that I bought from a friend who needed cash. She'd already got hit with most of its curse of suck – it just can't have anything connected in the DVD drive bay. (I have two USB DVD drives so no big.) After having official (non-Dell OEM) Windows XP installed it's behaved quite well. After a few years I even decided it was worth getting it a new battery... which hopefully wont' be its cue to fail. But my 1993 Mac PowerBook 180 still runs just fine, so I'm covered. :)

I would have went wit the mac book pro lol.....it is what I have and could not be happier with it. I have had it for over 4 years and have not had a single problem!!
